Op-Ed

Op-ed: FOX is running with its Tail between its Legs

Recently, Fox has accused CNN of posting bail for WikLeak founder Julian Assange in order that he might “publish articles that would further damage FOX's reputation.” CNN would like to remind their readers that we do not need Julian Assange to damage FOX’s reputation. They do that well enough without help. FOX goes on to accuse CNN of having a leftist slant, which is both shocking and hysterical. Everything seems leftist to a news organization so far right.

So we at CNN would like to remind FOX, “the only fair and balanced news source,” that maybe they should be more subtle. After WikiLeaks accused FOX of funding a Russian oil company, naturally they would like to discredit WikiLeaks. It is not surprising that they would rather the world NOT know that they are supporting politically powerful Russian criminals. I was under the impression that news organizations should share the truth with their readers, not support the imprisonment of the honest men who are dedicated to delivering the truth. I for one think it is rather childish for an international news source to let a truth-teller like Mr. Assange stay in prison because they are concerned about their already laughable reputation. We would also like to remind FOX news that when quoting sources, it is advisable to share surnames, as well as first names.

Lastly, we would like to commend FOX. That whole ONE article on their website is pretty impressive. It is good to know where they are concentrating their efforts.

Op-ed: Golden Crimes

Last Sunday, a crime was committed. Modern Family lost all deserved awards at the Golden Globes, to Glee. Really, Glee? A show about whiny students who don’t fit in and sing their feelings? How old are they supposed to be? 17? WHY ARE THEY ALL IN THEIR MID-TWENTIES? Shouldn’t you have graduated high school by the time your 25!?
Meanwhile, Modern Family is non-stop family friendly laughter. Gloria, a hysterical Columbian wife, lost to that aggressive coach who isn’t funny AT ALL. Cameron, the best gay character to ever hit TV, lost to that nasally gay student on Glee, who is infinitesimally less talented.

Next THE SOCIAL NETWORK SWEPT THE FLOOR with Black Swan and the King’s Speech. The movie that took no directorial talent to make, beat movies about psychologically unstable ballerinas and British Royalty with a stutter. What was good about the Social Network? Congratulations, you made a movie falsely depicting the founding of facebook. It isn’t like Mark Zuckerberg, a monotone college drop-out with no feelings, is a hard part to play! It isn’t like he had to overcome any personal hardship. He made a website. Woop-dee-doo. How did Helena Bonham Carter not win! She was the queen of England!
I am disgusted with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Op-ed: FOX Gets Catty

FOX News recently attacked CNN on making some errors. We at CNN have made mistakes, as has FOX. However, our network has posted retractions and corrected our errors. FOX has no grounds for this puerile attack, and perhaps should focus on reporting news rather than picking our stories apart.

Op - Ed: The New Nuclear North Korean War

When the Korean War broke out, the United States sent troops halfway across the globe to protect the freedom of the South Koreans. In this they were successful but when we tried to the cross the border into North Korea, China entered the war; because of this, we were fought back to our original position, leaving the peninsula divided.

Again, we are faced with a violent and resurgent North Korea, but this time, the situation is different. China has changed its long held stance of "unconditional support" for North Korea and condemns its act of violence. With this changed dynamic, a military response by the West is once possible. The United States still maintains bases in South Korea and a navy nearby on retaliation on Australia's behalf would be immediate and at will.

Still, renewed war remains a slim possibility. The single largest predicting factor is North Korea's nuclear arsenal. The main goal of the United States and the rest of the world should be to keep their heads screwed on and the bombs grounded.
